Key Note Speaker

Mr. Jeffrey W. Lem is the new Director of Titles for the Province of Ontario, effective as of October 1, 2014. Jeffrey now has has responsibility for the Land Titles Act, the Registry Act, and the largest all-electronic land registration system in North America, the Teraview/POLARIS land registration system, with over 7.5 million electronically registered properties.

Jeffrey graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Toronto, and both a JD and LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1989 and admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2000. 

Jeffrey was the first Canadian lawyer ever admitted as a fellow to the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, and one of the first lawyers in Ontario to be certified as a Specialist in Real Estate Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Jeffrey has been awarded the Ontario Bar Association’s Award for Excellence in Real Estate and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers' Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, and has been recognized for real estate in all of the leading legal guides. 

Jeffrey has been an instructor in real estate law for the Ontario Bar Admission Course, an instructor in condominium law for the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario, and the Director of the Master of Law Program in Real Estate at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Jeffrey is the long-standing Editor-in-Chief of the Real Property Reports and the author of the real estate volume in Halsbury’s Laws of Canada. He has written hundreds of articles and case commentaries or various legal journals and magazines, with regular real estate law columns still in Law Times and Building Magazine.

Jeffrey is a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section of the Ontario Bar Association, and a past president of the Association of Chinese Canadian Lawyers of Ontario. He also currently serves the broader legal community as a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
