Frank Au

 

Frank Au is counsel at the Crown Law Office - Criminal, Ministry of the Attorney General. He received his B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. Called to the Bar in February 2002, Frank  practiced civil litigation at Torys LLP and criminal litigation at the Department of Justice before he joined the Crown Law Office in 2007.

 

Frank has appeared as counsel at all levels of court, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. He is Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at Osgoode Hall Law School, and a co-director of the Appellate Advocacy course at the Crown Summer School Program (Ontario Crown Attorneys’ Association).

 

Frank frequently participates in educational programs for justices, lawyers and police officers, and has spoken at events sponsored by the Centre for Judicial Research and Education, Osgoode Professional Development, and the Law Society of Upper Canada. 

Sandra Nishikawa

 

Sandra Nishikawa is counsel at the Crown Law Office Civil, Ministry of the Attorney General, which she joined in 2013.  Prior to that, she was counsel at the Civil Remedies for Illicit Activities Office, litigating civil forfeiture and conspiracy cases. From 2003 to 2011, Sandra was counsel in the Business and Regulatory Division of the Department of Justice. At DOJ, she appeared before various courts and tribunals on a wide range of commercial, employment, human rights, administrative and constitutional law cases. From 1999-2003, Sandra was a litigation associate at a large New York law firm, working primarily on large-scale commercial litigation and class actions.

 

Sandra has a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Toronto, and LL.B. and B.C.L. degrees from McGill University. In 2009, Sandra completed an LL.M. at the University of Toronto, with a thesis that examined diversity on administrative tribunals.

 

Sandra is the Chair of the Equity Advisory Group of the Law Society of Upper Canada and has been actively involved in the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers. Sandra speaks French and conversational Japanese.

Tina Lie

 

Tina Lie is a partner at Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein LLP. Tina has a broad civil litigation practice with experience in commercial litigation, class actions, insolvency, and labour and employment law, and a particular interest in private international law. 

 

Tina has represented clients at numerous administrative tribunals and before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. Tina also has experience with public inquiries, having worked as a staff lawyer on the Goudge Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology in Ontario.

 

Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Tina clerked for the Justices of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Tina has a B.Sc. (Hons.) from McMaster University, and LL.B. and B.C.L degrees from McGill University. Tina is a member of The Advocates’ Society and the Toronto Lawyers Association. 

Rahool Agarwal

 

Rahool Agarwal is a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP.  Rahool’s practice focuses on complex corporate and commercial litigation, including contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, class actions, defamation claims and injunctions. 

 

Rahool also has extensive experience in constitutional law and public law, which includes acting as lead counsel in cases involving the constitutionality of a safe injection site and the application of state immunity in response to allegations of torture. He has published on constitutional issues in the Review of Constitutional Studies, the Journal of Parliamentary and Political Law, Charter and Human Rights Litigation and Constitutional Forum.

 

Rahool has a B.Comm from the University of Alberta and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toronto. Rahool has argued cases at all levels of court in Ontario, the Quebec Court of Appeal and four cases in the Supreme Court of Canada. In November 2011, Rahool was named “Young Practitioner of the Year” by the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto. In June 2013, he was awarded a “Precedent Setter Award” by the legal publication Precedent Magazine.  

Solman Lam

 

Soloman is an associate in Dentons Canada LLP's litigation group in Toronto. His practice covers a wide range of corporate and commercial litigation, including contractual disputes, auditor negligence claims, professional disciplinary proceedings, class actions, and energy and environmental compliance matters.

 

Prior to Dentons, Soloman articled as a clerk at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in English and computer science, and he obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School.

 

When not in the office, Soloman can usually be found on a hiking trail in the woods. He is also an active member of The Advocates’ Society and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers. To this day, his Chinese parents still ask him whether he wears a white wig in court like they do on Hong Kong soap operas.
